A rare example of vintage Armagnac distilled entirely from Folle Blanche grapes. in 1807 by Jean Boingnères and now run by Martine Lafitte, Domaine Boingnères has just 20 hectares and makes only top quality Armagnac. The wine is distilled in a 'Sier' still and then aged in 420 litre oak barrels, Strangely it has a dry ageing cellar creating a much slower ageing but an astonishing quality which makes Boingnères one of the few very best Armagnacs. And Martine makes sure that it is the dearest.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/3252/4476/products/domaine-boingneres-1986-bas-armagnac-folle-blanche-49-700ml-704588.jpg?v=1688747331
darroze-grand-bas-armagnac-les-grands-assemblages-blend-40-years-43-700ml
Darroze Grand Bas Armagnac Les Grands Assemblages 40 years 43% 700ml

At 40 years, the Armagnac's style is definitely apparent. The quality of the oak used is very important, as the right use of a quality barrel will bring complexity and finesse to the Armagnac; elements that can be judged and appreciated after 40 years in contact with the wood. The diversity in crus, vintages, grape varieties and styles has allowed Marc Darroze to work on his "Les Grands Assemblages" (The Great Blends), chosen for their complementary characteristics, the selected Armagnacs in each bottling are of different ages.
